Creating a Luxurious Interior

Luxury interiors are a symphony of high-quality materials, exquisite craftsmanship, and timeless design. They are all about a sense of opulence and sophistication, while still maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere. Luxury interiors are more than just a place to live; they are a sanctuary where you can relax, rejuvenate, and entertain in style. If you’re looking for easy ways to turn your home into a luxury oasis - here are some suggestions from us at Wild Yarn!

Opulent Colours

When thinking about luxury, you need to think about your colour scheme. To create a luxurious interior is to use opulent colours. Rich hues such as gold, silver, and bronze can add a touch of glamour to any space. However, it is important to use these colours sparingly, as too much can be overwhelming.

Our favourite way to incorporate opulent colours into home decor is to use them as accent colours. For example, you could paint a feature wall in a gold or silver shade, or add a few bronze accessories to your living room. Think about a lamp with a gold base, or a decorative ornament is bronze or silver. If these colours are a little too much for you, try adding some navy blue or a deep purple instead.

Luxury Rugs

Another way (and our favourite way) to add a touch of luxury to your home is with a luxury rug. Rugs can instantly transform a space, making it feel more inviting and welcoming. When choosing a luxury rug, it is important to consider the size and style of your room, as well as your personal preferences.

Popular luxury rug materials in Australia include wool, silk, and cashmere. These materials are known for their softness, durability, and natural beauty. Wool rugs are particularly popular in Australia due to their ability to insulate against the cold in the winter and stay cool in the summer. However, wool can be difficult in busy homes, so make sure to pick one that is right for you. Our luxe rugs collection features some great quality options!

Stylish Accessories

No luxury interior is complete without stylish accessories. These items can add personality and character to your space, and they can also be used to highlight your personal style.

Popular luxury interior accessories include:

  • Metallic finishes: Metallic finishes such as gold, silver, and copper are also popular in interior design. These finishes can be found on everything from furniture to lighting to accessories.
  • Mirrors: Mirrors are a great way to add a touch of glamour to any space. They can also help to make a room feel larger and brighter.
  • Plants: Plants are a great way to add life and freshness to your interior design. They can also help to improve air quality.

OUR Top Tips for Creating a Luxury Interior

If you are looking to create a luxury interior in your home, here are a few tips to finish:

  • Choose high-quality materials: When choosing furniture and accessories for your luxury interior, it is important to choose high-quality materials. This will ensure that your pieces last for years to come.
  • Invest in key pieces: It is better to invest in a few key pieces of furniture and accessories than to fill your home with cheap, low-quality items. Choose pieces that you love and that will last.
  • Don't be afraid to mix and match: Don't be afraid to mix and match different styles and finishes to create a unique and eclectic look. This will help to create a space that is both stylish and personal.
  • Add personal touches: Don't forget to add personal touches to your luxury interior. This could include displaying family photos, artwork, or souvenirs from your travels.

Creating a luxury interior does not have to be expensive or time-consuming. We hope that by following a few simple tips, you can create a space that is both stylish and comfortable that you love!

Which rugs are easiest to clean?

Rugs are an absolute must in every home! Not only do they add warmth to the room, they are an easy way to add style to any room in your home. However, sometimes they can be a hassle to clean depending on the rug. Easy-to-clean rugs are a must-have for busy households. Here are some tips on how to choose a rug that is easy to clean and maintain.

Material matters

  1. The type of material your rug is made of plays a big role in how easy it is to clean. Synthetic fibres such as polyester, nylon, and polypropylene are known to be much easier to keep clean. These materials are also less likely to stain or fade, making them ideal for busy homes with kids and pets!

Our Origin collection is made from the easiest to clean fibres, shop them now.

Choose a low-pile rug

  1. Rugs with a low pile are easier to clean than high-pile rugs. Dirt and dust are less likely to get trapped in the fibres, making it easier to vacuum or sweep your rug clean. Low-pile rugs are also less likely to shed as the fibres of the rug are short.

Our Madison collection is super easy to vacuum and prevents dust and dirt build ups, check out the collection.

Colour is everything!

  1. It might seem like common sense, but Choosing a rug in a darker colour can make it easier to hide stains and spills. Lighter-coloured rugs are more likely to show dirt and stains, making them harder to keep clean. If you have kids or pets, a darker-coloured rug may be a better choice for your home.

Darker coloured rugs that hide dirt well and easier to hide stains, shop them here.

Check the care instructions

  1. Before you buy a rug, make sure to check the care instructions. Some rugs can be machine-washed, while others need to be spot-cleaned or dry-cleaned. If you're looking for an easy-to-clean rug, choose one that can be machine-washed or spot-cleaned.

When it comes to choosing an easy-to-clean rug for your home, look for one made of synthetic fibres, a low pile, and a darker colour. Also, check the care instructions before you buy to ensure you can maintain your rug properly. With these tips in mind, you can find a rug that is both stylish and easy to clean, making it a great addition to any room in your home.

2023 Interior Design Trends

2023 Interior Design Trends You Need To Know About

2023 is the year that anything goes - and we’re here for it!
People are embracing their own individual style and mixing and matching different elements from different trends. One thing we’re all happy about though, is that natural colours and textures won’t be going anywhere just yet!

To help us out with the trends of the year, we’ve teamed up with some of the most stylish and knowledgeable people we know to help you navigate the trends of 2023.

Modern Monochrome Interiors

Stephanie is all about modern monochrome; “I love having everything in our home completely monochrome and adding in touches of colour within decor and art”.
She predicts minimalism for 2023 - “one thing I’ve already spotted is a lot of people are going for the minimalist look which I LOVE!”

One piece of advice I’d give everyone reading this is to get some decorative coffee table books. “Not only are they a staple piece, but they look super sleek and add some height for decoration purposes”. Think about adding a vase or cute decorative knot on top and you’re good to go.

To match Stephanie’s interior style, she has the Perla Black & White rug at home - “the monochrome colours suit our space perfectly and the wool adds a gorgeous texture!”

Coastal Interiors

Kate describes her interior style as a mix between modern & mediterranean coastal decor.

“I think rich colour palettes are going to be in this year - 2023 is the year of deep reds, browns and greens.” And we’re going to have to agree with Kate - some of the most gorgeous rooms we’ve seen lately are all about sage green and rich browns!

Kate’s advice to everyone this year is to bring in some curved furniture and/or decor to your home. “I am loving this trend - the curves just add an effortless calmness and cosiness to your space”. Adding in curves can be done with round furniture (think lounges or coffee tables) or smaller pieces such as vases.

With the perfect coastal vibes, Kate is loving our Astro Wool Rug - “I love the texture of this rug and the bright and airy feel it brings in to my home”

Contemporary with a pinch of Scandi

After 8 houses that have all been so different, Katrina says house number 9 will be filled with natural textures and colours.

“Personally, one of a kind pieces really makes a house a home”. Katrina suggests that unique art, and thrifted items are what 2023 is about. As well as adding texture to your decor; “this is easy to do with some soft furnishings and rugs” (if you know anything about us here, you know we loooove some texture!)
While we all love some white, all white interiors are out; “I think people will be embracing more colour and continue taking more risks”.

“My current favourite rug is the Petrus Modern Wool Ash rug - gorgeous texture and a neutral colour that is timeless”.

Modern Australian Farmhouse

“My style is constantly transitioning as I tend to make style choices purely based on what I like”. Jackie’s words are ones that we can definitely all relate to! Rather than sticking to just one style, Jackie doesn’t like to be held back by a certain style or theme.

“I love my Australian art and am obsessed with recycled Australian timber furniture. My colours are anything earthy - rust, terracotta and eucalyptus green”.
Jackie predicts that 2023 will be about individuality and quirkiness rather than trying to achieve a cookie cutter ‘display home’ kind of vibe, as well as the return to adding colour to the home with bold wallpapers and statement prints.

When asked what everyone needs in their home in 2023, Jackie kept it simple; “I can’t decide between plants and great lighting - so I’ll mention both!”
Plants bring life and colour to a room, and there’s nothing more stunning than a lovely warm glow from a corner lamp or statement pendant.

I’m a little biased with my favourite Wild Yarn rug as I have it at home and I absolutely love it! The Dream Makay rug is super soft underfoot and I love the pattern. I get so many comments about our lounge since we’ve added the rug in.

International Women's Day - Get to know the founder of Wild Yarn Rugs!

Get to know Sayeda, the founder of Wild Yarn!

International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over 100 years and we as women have a lot to celebrate! It is important to give credit where it’s due to all the women who have fought to come to a closer place of equality over the years, but also keep in mind that there is also a long way to go. With this in mind, I wanted to share my own journey in business in a very male dominated industry.

My journey into selling rugs came quite naturally. I have always gravitated towards textiles and decorating. My Central Asian heritage has allowed me to really embrace the beauty and uniqueness of rugs and cushions and fabrics, as this is what I grew up with. Rugs were a key part of our decor at home and had a strong influence on my tastes when it came to decor. When I met my now husband, his family was in the textile industry so it came naturally to start working with them, but I always knew that I wanted to branch off and work for myself and find my own place in the industry.

Starting Wild Yarn seemed like the right next step. I was already working with factories around the world for many years to develop beautiful and high-quality products and knew all about the intricacies of rugs. Coming from having my own bricks and mortar stores, I had many years of experience in helping customers find the perfect rug to complete their space. I wanted to expand and create a place online where I could share this with others who were as passionate about their interiors as I am. Starting an online store was a way that I knew that I could help even more people with finding the perfect rug for their space and connect with more people who had a passion for interior design.

Getting to this point wasn’t that easy though - It took around 18 years! There have been many ups and downs on my journey. The biggest obstacles I still face today is being a mum and running a business and being passionate about both. I feel like not enough women talk about juggling being a mum and running a business. I had missed a lot of open days for both my little ones as well as not being able to help volunteer at school events when my kids were younger. Despite all this, I feel like I have been a great role model to my 15 year old daughter and son. My children motivate me to keep trying harder and not give up!

One of the other obstacles that I face is how male-dominated the rug industry is both in Australia and around the world. I feel like I have had to work harder than my male counterparts and break through barriers that they may not have even had to experience. I have to do twice the work in building relationships that came easy for the males in the industry, but I couldn’t let any of that stop me. I saw this and it motivated me to work even harder!

With my extensive experience in this industry, I wanted to share some advice with women who may also be looking at starting their own business. It is incredibly tough, lots of long days and nights, and lots of sacrifice to make things work, but don't let this scare you! The sacrifice and hard work pays off and it is so rewarding to see your hard work come to fruition. My biggest tip for women would be to believe in yourself, persevere and most importantly, be open to learning new things. When you are open to learning new things, doors open all the time. Even after 18 years of being in this industry, I am still learning new things every day!

Top tips when it comes to looking after your wool rug

Top tips when it comes to looking after your wool rug

If you have ever purchased rugs for your home, chances are at least one of them has been wool (and if it hasn’t been then what are you doing?!). Wool rugs are definitely an investment and are extremely practical in just about every home. The fibres are natural, they are naturally hypoallergenic and deter dust-mites and bacteria. They are also naturally flame retardant (so they make the perfect rug in front of your fireplace if you’re lucky enough to have one!) and very hard wearing.

All these great things about wool rugs, however, there are some things you need to know when it comes to cleaning your floor rug if you want it to last.

1. Rotate it

Rotating your wool rug every few weeks or so stops excess wear in only one area of the rug. What you want with your rug is an even wear pattern and to avoid any areas of your rug fading from excessive sunlight. This is especially the case if the rug is under your bed and you are stepping on the same areas of the rug all the time. If you do have a few rugs around the house, we’d recommend swapping the locations of the rugs as this is the best way to get an even wear pattern on each rug.

2. Vacuum it (but not too regularly)

Low-impact vacuuming is key! High power vacuuming is damaging for the natural fibres of the rug and pulls at them unnecessarily, resulting in excess shedding. Motor-heads on vacuums are a big no-no and so is vacuuming in an up-down motion. You want a low impact vacuum going only in one direction once a week at most.

Vacuuming your wool rug

3. Spot clean stains… IMMEDIATELY

While wool rugs are relatively naturally stain resistant, you do have to be extra careful with them when it comes to cleaning. Different kinds of spills must be treated differently, and we do not recommend using any harsh cleaners or chemicals on your natural rug.

Never pour any cleaning products directly on the wool rug, always put them on your damp cloth first and be gentle when you clean the rug to prevent damage.

For day to day spills, we recommend some Castille soap and warm water. The key is to dab at the spill rather than rubbing it, as this will push it further into the fibres of your rug and cause damage.

After using any liquid to clean your rug, you will need to make sure that you allow the rug to dry properly. If you can hang it, we’d recommend doing this to improve air circulation.

Pro-tip: When it comes to mud, let the mud dry first and scrape it off. Trying to clean off wet mud may cause it to spread out over the rug and make the stain bigger.

4. Full cleaning requires a professional

For any unspeakable situations when it comes to your new rug, we always recommend calling a professional. Professionals can take your rug and give it the TLC it needs in a controlled environment, that we usually cannot replicate at home.

Christmas Home Decor Ideas 🎄

Christmas Home Decor Ideas 🎄

Holiday Season is finally here! It’s my favourite time of year, and so much fun (and stress) decorating your home and preparing your Christmas Living Room for Christmas Day. I’ve put together some of my top tips to help you create the perfect Christmas vibe for your home so that you can celebrate the holiday season in style with your loved ones.

1. Fake a White Christmas

Christmas in Australia is never white, we’re lucky enough to be blessed with a warm summer Christmas, however, this can mean that we miss the beauty that we see everywhere that comes with a white Christmas. Don’t let this stop you from creating the prettiest white Christmas in your home! Frosted Christmas trees are easy to find and can elevate your home decor. Pair your snowy tree with gold Christmas decorations or white Christmas decorations and neutral toned baubles and accessories for a real luxurious look. A white rug like our Byron Ivory rug also adds to the glam!

2. Keep it cozy and neutral

Scandi and minimalist design are where we could all draw some inspiration from this Christmas. A neutral palette can be decorated with a pop of colour, keep accents in line with Christmas colours - pair neutral palettes such as beige/cream, white and brown tones with red or green accents. Or keep your whole theme neutral and add textured accents like tinsel or glitter covered Christmas baubles - elegant but simple!

These Cone Tree lights from Adairs are one of my favourites at the moment!

Gold Champagne Christmas Decorations

3. Declutter before decorating

If you know me, you know my favourite saying - “less is more!” and when it comes to Christmas decorating, it’s not different. You may have hundreds of decorations but you don’t need to have them all out. Take what you have out of storage, plan your theme and then pick your decor accordingly. Take this time to also clear out any decorations that you know won’t be used again - any broken items, outdated items or things that you just don’t absolutely love anymore - get rid of them! Stick with the pieces that mean something to you, that have sentimental value and that are timeless - this way you can never go wrong!

I am currently loving these gnomes from Pillow Talk - timeless, neutral and elegant. They can be used time and time again and will not go out of style.

Gnome Christmas Decorations

4. It’s beginning to smell a lot like Christmas!

Candles are classic and can add that extra bit of coziness to your home over the holidays. While artificial candles can work, there is nothing that compares to real candlelight (where safe to do so). Put out the candles you already own and add some extras, and make sure they’re all lit up! One of my Christmas favourites is the Glasshouse Night Before Christmas found here.

Coloured rugs for living room. Find the perfect living room rug and bedroom rug

How do I pick the right coloured rug?

A rug can transform your entire space. The beauty of a rug is that it can completely change up your home, from a bedroom rug, living room rug or dining room rug. From the right colours to the right textures, the rug can be your feature when you walk into the room or the piece that can help tie everything together. To help you with picking the perfect rug, we have put these tips together.

1. Take a look at the lights and shadows in your room

Each room is unique in its natural lighting and this can make a big difference in how the colours of your rug appear. If your room doesn’t get much or any natural light, you’ll want to avoid dark coloured rugs such as black rugs, charcoal rugs or navy blue rugs. They can make the space look darker and smaller. One the other hand, rooms with lots of light (natural or artificial!) have the luxury of darker coloured rugs as well as lighter coloured rugs such as beige rugs and cream rugs.

2. What else is in the room?

Before buying your new rug, have a look at the colour scheme and the decor in your room. What other colours are in the room? The carpet, the tiles, the walls? Your furniture and artwork need to also be taken into account as they can change how your floor rug will look. Do you want to match your rug to your lounge or to your artwork? Or get a rug that's the complete opposite?

Thinking about all of these will help you decide whether you want a statement feature rug, or a simpler rug that helps tie everything together.

3. Be true to yourself!

Your home is a reflection of you! Your interior decor should showcase homewares that you love and that represent you.
If you are someone who loves understated and simpler interiors, we recommend our Byron or Loren wool rugs - the perfect luxurious rug to help tie all the elements of your home together.
If a feature rug is more your style, our multicolour rugs are perfect for this. Featuring all kinds of colours from pink rugs and blue rugs to boho rugs and traditional oriental rugs.

White Wool Rug in Bedroom

How to find your perfect Bedroom Rug

Picking out the perfect size rug for your bedroom doesn’t need to be complicated (even though it can feel overwhelming!). Not only does a bedroom rug transform the way your bedroom looks, it also adds warmth and comfort to the space- who wants to step on a cold floor first thing in the morning when getting out of bed?! The right rug will help tie everything together and help define the space - especially in larger, open spaces. We put together these tips to help you find your perfect bedroom rug.

1. The Bigger the Better!

When it comes to bedroom rugs, the bigger the better! A small rug will make the space look smaller and can make the furniture in your room look too big for the space.

To find the perfect rug for your space, the best way to start is by measuring your bed. Ideally, you want around 30cm to 45cm on the sides of the bed so that you can stand on it when getting out of bed.

For example, the smallest rug for a King size bed would be the 240x330cm size whereas a queen size bed would need a 200x290cm sized rug as a minimum. The placement of the rug does depend on the size of your bedroom, you can place the rug at the head of the bed or start it halfway down so that you get lots of rug at the bottom of the bed - it is entirely up to you!

Pictured: Perla Ada Black & White Rug

2. Materials and Patterns are super important!

Texture is super important when it comes to bedrooms as you want as much warmth and comfort as possible. Bedrooms are low traffic areas and so any material works! Soft, plush shaggy rugs that would be too much for other rooms of your home are perfect for the bedroom. Luxe wool rugs that might not be able to withstand the heavy traffic in areas such as the living room or as dining room rugs, are also perfect in bedrooms!

Pictured: Byron Ivory Rug

When it comes to patterns - anything goes! Keep in mind that the bed will be covering up a lot of the rug so patterns may get lost - so anything with a medallion in the centre such as oriental rugs or Persian rugs, may lose it’s wow factor.

3. Don’t let a budget stop you from finding the one!

If you know that you want a rug for your bedroom, but don’t have the budget to get a big rug, don’t stress! A runner rug can make just much of an impact. Place a runner on the sides of the bed or at the foot of the bed. They can even be layered on top of another rug for a chic, boho look.
